Title of Talk: Stormwater, the Bay, and You
Speaker: Denise Frey, Ph.D., Anne Arundel County Watershed Steward
About the Talk: Stormwater runoff creates pollution which is detrimental to our streams, rivers and the Chesapeake Bay, destroying aquatic vegetation and having severe consequences for both humans and wildlife. There are many sources of this pollution, but urban and suburban development is a major contributor. The Anne Arundel County Watershed Stewards Academy trains stewards to educate and engage communities in the mitigation of stormwater pollution. We will explore the harmful effects of runoff, and what you can do to help protect our waterways.
About the Speaker: Denise Frey received a Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Maryland in 1977. Her career included research at Goddard Space Flight Center analyzing spacecraft observations of radio signatures of interplanetary shocks. She later did software development at NOAA for the processing of data from orbital weather satellites. Upon retirement she pursued training by the Anne Arundel Watershed Academy to become a Watershed Steward.
