Scenic Rivers Land Trust’s 20th annual Walk for the Woods is less than a month away! Celebrate the beauty of the protected Bacon Ridge Natural Area and the joy of exploring the outdoors.

Guided Hikes
An exciting lineup of guided hikes are being led throughout the day by experts in wildlife, native plants, birds, mushrooms, and more:

  • 7:30 am, Bird Hike

  • 8:00 am, Mushroom/Fungi Identification

  • 8:30 am, Forest Bathing Walk (age 16+)

  • 9:00 am, Woodland Hike

  • 9:30 am, Bird Hike

  • 10:00 am, Nature Hike for All Ages

  • 10:30 am, Northern Trails Hike

  • 10:30 am – 2:30 pm, Creek Critter Discovery with Coastal Resources

  • 11:00 am, Reptile & Amphibians Hike

  • 11:30 am, Northern Trails Hike

  • 12 pm, Crownsville Hospital Cemetery Walk & Talk

  • 12:30 pm, Woodland Hike with Tree ID

Advanced registration is recommended, but not required. Popular hikes will fill up quickly!
 
Other Activities

  • Self-led Hikes: Explore Bacon Ridge Natural Area at your own pace with the Colby Rucker Memorial Self-led Naturalist Hike. Trail maps and educational signage will guide you through a scenic one-mile round trip—perfect for families and independent adventurers.

  • Critter Discovery: Get up close with aquatic wildlife! Experts from Coastal Resources, Inc. will be stationed on Bacon Ridge Branch with hands-on exhibits showcasing the creatures that call our streams home.

  • Native Tree Giveaway: Take home a free native tree sapling, courtesy of Bartlett Tree Experts! Stop by their table near registration to pick one up while supplies last and chat with a certified arborist about planting tips.

  • Interactive Exhibits: Visit engaging displays from Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks, Arundel Rivers Federation, Anne Arundel County Planning and Zoning, and the Cultural Resources Division. Learn about local conservation efforts, water quality, land use, and even uncover some of the area's rich history at the archaeology display!
