Don’t worry, that’s normal! The paper is intended to act as a weed barrier so if it rips keep a closer eye out for weeds. Pull weeds by hand when you see them.

If the roots are small, you can snip them with pruning shears or scissors. If they are large, simply plant around them. That may mean straying from the plant placement icon, but that’s okay!

Each year it will fill out a bit more, filling in the the spaces in between the original plants. If you find new growth outside of where you want it, you can dig up the young plants and give them away or plant them elsewhere.
