Leila MacCarthy, Class 10 Steward candidate, has been awarded a CB Trust mini-grant for her community of Riva Trace! Come help her plant a conservation landscape!
Where: Riva Trace Community off of Riva Rd in Annapolis. The location is along Riva Trace Parkway off of Riva Rd. Look on your left after passing the Summer Village entrance. You will see our table and orange cones. You may park along the parkway.
What: Conservation Landscape planting. We be planting 400 groundcovers and shrubs. Please join us for a few hours on Saturday morning. We will have coffee, donuts and snacks and good stories to tell afterwards.
Bring: Please bring gloves, trowels and the like if you have them. If not, just bring yourselves – the more the merrier!
The “Riva Trace Erosion Control Demonstration Garden” will convert a 40 x 10 stretch of sloped bare soil along the main road of Riva Trace into a conservation landscape. This area is badly eroded and sends sediment down the nearby storm drain during rain events. The area is mostly shady with a large tree in the center. A coir log will be installed about 2/3 of the way up to help prevent erosion. The site prep will be done in advance of the planting day.
