Uniting Congregations for Creation Care

The Watershed Stewards Academy invites clergy and lay stewards to join us for an evening of fellowship and inspiration, as we prepare for the confluence of Easter and Earth Day this Spring. After sharing exciting news about a large grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to engage faith-based communities in watershed restoration, we will discuss WSA’s opportunities for congregations to unite in collective action for healing the Earth. Congregations who have both clergy and lay stewards attending this event will be eligible to:

  • Apply for $500 in funds that may be used toward the beautification of their green spaces.  (We have the funds to support 10 congregations!)

  • Learn how WSA’s application to the Chesapeake Bay Trust for a dedicated “RiverWise Corps Member” may provide additional support--and create a Green Job opportunity--for your Congregation.

In addition, interactive workshops will let you explore resources for spreading the message of “Creation Care.”  Our three workshops are:

  1. Preaching a Green Message from Your Pulpit

  2. Beautifying Your Green Spaces for Easter

  3. Sharing a Green Lesson with Your Children

Our event will close with a blessing ceremony to celebrate our united commitment to clean waters. While the event will have a Christian focus, all denominations are welcome and encouraged to attend. Much of the information, including children’s activities and a conversation about maintenance will be beneficial to members of all faith communities.

Whether you belong to an existing RiverWise congregation or are part of a congregation that would like to connect with our RiverWise family, we hope you will join us for this exciting event, and learn about the many opportunities WSA has for you in 2019!
