The Chesapeake Bay supports the world’s largest breeding osprey population – but new data is concerning. The 2025 Operation Osprey survey found strong egg production in April and May, yet many nests were later abandoned, and by June only 15 chicks were recorded across 63 monitored nests. Less than one-third of tracked nests successfully raised young last season. What does this mean for the Bay – and what can we learn from these alarming trends?
